BY-LAWS

Young Trade Unionists
Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO

ARTICLE I – NAME

The organization shall be known as the Young Trade Unionists Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO.

ARTICLE II – MISSION

The Mission Statement for the Young Trade Unionists: The Young Trade Unionists works to promote, empower, and unite members and non-members to participate in the labor movement through education, collaboration, and active involvement to foster solidarity.

ARTICLE III – MEMBERSHIP

The membership of the Young Trade Unionists shall have the benefit of as much independent thought and action as possible, without being in conflict with the Constitution and By-Laws of either the Maryland State and D.C. AFL-CIO or the Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO Unions.

ARTICLE IV – OFFICERS

b. Vice Chairman
c. Recording Secretary
d. Financial Secretary
e. Sergeant of Arms
f. Executive Board Member

a. The Chairman: shall preside at all meetings of the Young Trade Unionists and preserve order during its deliberation, appoint all committees subject to the approval of the body.

b. The Vice Chairman: shall perform the duties of the Chairman in case of absence of that officer and shall also discharge the duties of the Chairman when called upon by the Chairman.

c. The Recording Secretary: shall record the proceedings of the Young Trade Unionists, read all communications and answer same if requested to do so.

d. The Financial Secretary: shall keep accurate account of all receipts and expenditures and make monthly reports to the Young Trade Unionists Executive Board, and present his/her books to the Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO Trustees at their request for audit.

ARTICLE V – MEETINGS

There shall be twelve meetings per year, once a month, or as needed. Monthly meetings shall be held on the first Monday of each month.

ARTICLE VI – NOMINATIONS of OFFICERS and ELECTIONS

a. Eligibility

1. Must be a registered voter
2. Must have attended six of the previous meetings.

b. Nominations shall be held every other year at the December meeting. Nominees must be present to accept.

c. Elections shall be held every other year at the January meeting.

ARTICLE VII –FINANCES

Activities and programs of the Young Trade Unionists shall be financed by monies raised by the body.

ARTICLE VIII – COMMITEES

All committees shall be appointed by the Chairman with approval of the Executive Board. The elected Officers constitute the Executive Board.

ARTICLE IX – AMENDMENTS

a. These By-Laws may be amended by two-thirds vote at the following Executive Board meeting, after a proposed amendment or addition has been submitted.

b. Any change in the By-Laws must be read at two consecutive Executive Board meetings and approved by the members.
