The Young Trade Unionists June general meeting was another success. This meeting had a panel of young elected officials who rocked the house. Those elected officials were Congressman John Sarbanes, Baltimore City Councilman William Cole, Delegate Todd Schuler, and Delegate John Olszewski. The four guest speakers did a wonderful job and received many standing ovations during the meeting. Our moderator for the meeting was Maryland & District of Columbia State Federation AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Donna Edwards. Secretary Treasurer did a great job asking the hard questions and expediting viable solutions. This meeting had the participation of members from the IBEW Local 24, UFCW Local 27, AFSME International, AFSME Council 67, LIUNA 710, Roofers Local 30, Baltimore Teachers Union Local 340, UA Local 486, UA Local 602, Elevators Local 7, Sheet Metal Local 100, IATSE Local 19, BAC Local 1, NALC Oriole Branch 176, UAW Local 2301, AFGE, Iron Workers Local 16, and the APWU Local 181. We had our friends from the Baltimore City Young Dems, Rod Easter from the Baltimore Building Trades, Marianne Kreitnes from Senator Barbara Mikulski’s office, Candidate for Delegate Cal Bowman (District 8), Candidate for Delegate Ruth Baisden (District 8), and Candidate for Delegate Rebecca Nelson (District 7). There were also many more people in attendance that contributed a collective effort to see a progressive movement for the working families in the State of Maryland and America. This opportunity gave the Young Trade Unionists a special knowledge about the legislation, representatives, and initiatives that need to be considered for the growth of Maryland. We would like to thank everyone for helping to create the success of the YTU June general meeting. Follow the link to view pictures to this event. Also check out our You Tube section on the website to view the individual responses from the elected officials and leaders. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next general meeting that will be held on September 6, 2010.
In Solidarity,
The Young Trade Unionists
