It’s Union Time! TSO’s Deserve a Voice at Work – Now!

February 20, 2010

AFGE has been in a 9 year fight to obtain collective bargaining for the nations Transportation Security Officers (TSO’s) at our airports. The fight continues and has intensified after the nominee for the TSA Administrator, Erol Southers, withdrew his nomination.

AFGE has created an online petition addressed to DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano asking her to grant collective bargaining for the TSO’s now. Here is the link http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/TSAPetition

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and the AFL-CIO are holding a rally on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 in support of collective bargaining rights for 40,000 Transportation Security Officers (TSO’s) who work in the nations airports. In 2001, when the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created, President Bush and congressional Republicans denied TSO’s union and other basic workplace rights declaring that “union right would jeopardize national security.” Now, more than eight years later, TSO’s still have no union rights!

Its time for President Obama to instruct Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to grant TSO’s their full workplace rights, including the right to a Voice at Work. Workplace protections must also be enacted into law by the passage of H.R. 1881-the Transportation Security Workforce Enhancement Act.

Join us in sending President Obama and Secretary Napolitano this message:

“It’s Union Time!!”

• Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2010
• Location: Lafayette Square (IN front of the White House, between H Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue NW)
• Time: 11:30 a.m.
